How often should a septic tank be pumped?

In most cases, having your tank pumped once every 4 years is recommended for the health of your system and to stay compliant with the state of Colorado. (*COVID19 Update*)

However, the frequency of pumping required can vary based on a number of factors, including your water usage, the number of people using the system, medications you might be taking and even the kinds of foods you eat. Fats and oils take longer to break down and medications and medical treatments such as chemotherapy kill off the digesting bacteria inside the tank, requiring more frequent pumping. We also strongly suggest an additive to improve the health of your system.
